Piece Story

Yueling

菱花印月。
The pot features a lobed melon design, with vertical ridges running seamlessly from the lid to the belly, resembling a water chestnut flower blooming at night or ripples catching the moonlight. The body is flattened and round, topped with a low-profile bridge knob, exuding a sense of stillness. Crafted from golden vermilion clay (Zhuni) with a high iron content and a high shrinkage rate—yielding only six or seven successful pieces out of ten after firing—this clay is delicate yet rich in character, displaying a vibrant, non-garish orange-red hue. Du Yijun, a student of Jiang Jianxiang, is renowned for his mastery of small and medium-sized works; "Yijun Small Pieces" are well-known in the Zisha world, as small pots are the ultimate test of both clay properties and craftsmanship—this piece is a testament to his meticulous skill.
Best for: Highly aromatic Oolong, Dancong, and Lapsang Souchong black tea.
Ideal for: Those who enjoy patient nurturing of their tea ware and appreciate the vivid brilliance of Zhuni clay.
